Betting on humanity: Why I'm walking away from a 26-year career (and what it means for you)

Let’s be honest—navigating the modern workplace feels a bit like driving with a GPS that just keeps yelling "Recalculating!" every five minutes.

Overload is nothing new. But the sheer level of uncertainty we are facing today is wild. Between the rapid rise of AI and a constantly shifting global landscape, we are also navigating a chilling economic reality. We are watching layoffs rise, remote work get aggressively rolled back, and major headlines announcing that companies like Deloitte are cutting down PTO, parental leave, and other essential benefits for workers.

It is no wonder so many of us are exhausted. Whether you are reeling from an unexpected layoff or simply feeling miserable under management that has changed the rules, the message from the corporate world is loud and clear: the system values productivity over humanity. If you are reading this and nodding, feeling that familiar knot of burnout in your stomach, please know you are not alone. So many of us are standing at major crossroads right now, wondering what comes next.

My personal version of drawing a line in the sand meant making a slightly terrifying, wonderfully exhilarating decision: I am beginning the process of stepping away from the safety of a fruitful, 26-year career.

Whether you are preparing to leave a secure harbor like I am, pivoting to a completely new industry, or figuring out who you are after a forced exit, stepping into the great unknown always invites a few party crashers to the brainnamely, Fear and Doubt. But in the face of that universal uncertainty, I decided to double down on me. I realized I didn't want to just keep trying to out-produce a system that is fundamentally broken; I wanted to be part of a gentle revolution. And more than that, I want to help you discover how to stitch all your beautifully messy pieces together so you can finally feel whole and grounded, no matter what transition you are facing.

The Illusion of Out-Working the System

Here is the hard truth I’ve learned on my own journey, and what I see every day in my coaching practice: You cannot out-work systemic uncertainty. And here is the trap we fall into: as high-achievers, we are conditioned to believe that big, complex problems require big, exhausting solutions. If a fix isn't arduous, we don't trust it. We end up completely bypassing the very simplicity that could actually heal us, simply because it feels "too easy."

But what if the ultimate power move is trading in the complicated and arduous for flexibility and ease?

The antidote to our modern chaos isn't a better time-management app, waking up at 4:00 AM, or a longer to-do list. The antidote is humanity.

In my practice, we talk a lot about heart coherence. If you are an A-type high-achiever, you might hear "heart-centered" and assume it's just a fluffy wellness concept. But I’ll let you in on a secret: it is actually a brilliant, highly effective strategic ability.

When we learn to biologically regulate our nervous systems, we literally transform our internal chaos into unshakeable confidence, instant clarity, and sustainable energy.

  • We stop leaking energy in frantic "fix-it" mode.

  • We make sharper, cleaner executive decisions.

  • We stop reacting to the pace of the world and start moving through it with intention.

Your Weekly Shift

The most hopeful part of all this? You already have the exact equipment needed to do this. You don't have to keep trying to out-work a system that doesn't care about your well-being.

This week, I invite you to try a simple, 60-second experiment. When you feel that familiar rush of "I have to fix everything right now" energy:

  1. Pause and place your hand over your heart.

  2. Take three slow breaths, imagining the air flowing directly in and out of your chest.

  3. Recall one simple thing you are grateful for, and breathe that feeling in.

Lao Tzu quote "Be still, and the world will arise to meet you."

The Stakes: What Happens Next

Here is what is at stake right now: If you continue to bypass simplicity and try to out-work a system that values productivity over your humanity, you will remain exhausted. You will continue leaking energy into a chaotic "fix-it" mode until burnout makes the decision to stop for you.

But if you choose to pause, turn inward, and bet on your own humanity, everything changes. You can transform internal chaos into unshakeable confidence. You can reclaim your agency, make sharper decisions, and finally feel grounded and whole—even when the world around you is spinning.

The world doesn't need you to be a perfectly productive machine. It just needs you to be human.
